You know that feeling that you get when summer finally arrives—the weather is totally gorgeous—you can take a break and travel on that vacation you planned and—
WHAT??
WHAT??
That’s not how you’re feeling?
UH-oh.
Have you been hit with a rush of anxiety because you had such great plans for your year and now you’re nowhere near where you want to be?
Are you watching all the photos from all of your friends’ IG and FB posts about their glorious vacations with family and friends?
Are you trying to keep your frustration and concern a secret from everyone?
NO WORRIES. You’ve simply been hit with a Mid-Year Crisis.
Full Disclosure: This is totally normal—and totally solvable.
The Set Up
If you’ve been reading this Playbook for a while, you’ve seen how easy it can be to doubt yourself and your own journey through life when you compare yourself to anyone else. When you figure that we’ve been raised/socialized to “keep up with the Joneses,” this makes perfect sense.
Perfect sense if you want to feel like crap all the time.
Yep—I have totally been there, done that. It was so hard to look at my progress in my early years and feel like I should have been so much farther along. So many other people were doing so much better than me—what was WRONG with me??? This crappy feeling was always worse when summer hit—it was like watching my life go down the drain before it ever got moving.
UGH. This happened every summer—for years.
It took me awhile to figure out that I was totally off-track with my thinking—because there’s simply no one else like me on the planet. It finally occurred to me that my journey is exclusively my own—and it frankly doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing. It only matters what I’m doing.
This one thought changed everything.
These days, I know that I’m exactly where I need to be—where I want to be—and I’m totally good with that.
How Did I DO IT?
Although it took me years to figure this out, once I looked into it more deeply, I could see that I had a specific strategy for shifting myself out of feeling crappy and into feeling like I’m completely on track. It emerged so organically over time that it was invisible.
That is, until I met Cindy Ho—another integrative change coach who thinks very much like I do—even though she lives on the other side of the world. We have never breathed the same air, yet we think so much alike that it instantly felt like finally meeting someone from my home tribe. We’ve been having a great time exchanging ideas—working, playing and laughing together—for the past year.
Recently Cindy had an idea about how to overcome this Mid-Year Crisis, to shorten the process of getting through it, in a fraction of the time it took me.
We started playing with her process as I plugged in my experiences—and—we realized that we had something we could share with anyone, anywhere, that would KICK THAT MID-YEAR CRISIS IN THE BUTT.
So of course we’re rolling it out and sharing it with everyone we know—and you are always invited!
